What is KidShield

KidShield is a parental control system that lets you manage your children's internet access from one place โ€” directly from your phone or computer.

The system works at the home network level, which means protection is active for all devices on the kids' WiFi โ€” phones, tablets, laptops and smart TVs โ€” without installing anything on the devices themselves.

Filters are the most important feature of KidShield. They block categories of sites at the DNS level โ€” before the page even loads on the device.

๐Ÿ’ก
After changing settings, click "Save filters" to apply them. Changes take effect immediately.

๐Ÿ”’ Security

โš ๏ธ
Important: You cannot enable both "Block YouTube" and "YouTube Safe Mode" at the same time. Choose one.
YouTube Safe Mode

Instead of blocking YouTube completely, redirects to a restricted version with children's content only. Comments and video suggestions are hidden.

Block Social Media

Blocks Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Snapchat, Reddit, Pinterest, VK and others.

๐ŸŽฎ Gaming & Gambling

Block Gaming Platforms

Blocks Steam, Epic Games, Roblox, PlayStation, Xbox and other gaming platforms. Off by default.

5

Schedule

The schedule automatically turns internet off and on in the kids' network at set times โ€” every day, without manual intervention.

โฐ How the Schedule Works

At the set block time ("Block at") the internet in the kids' network stops automatically. At the unblock time ("Unblock at") internet access is restored automatically.

Setup

Enable the schedule

Turn on the "Enable schedule" toggle.

Set the block time

For example 21:00 โ€” the time when children should go to sleep.

Set the unblock time

For example 07:00 โ€” the time when internet turns on in the morning.

Save the schedule

Click "Save schedule". The setting is active from the next trigger.

๐Ÿ’ก
The schedule is independent of filters. Even with an active schedule you can manually block internet at any time using the "Block now" button.
6

Allowed Sites (Allowlist)

Sometimes a site may be blocked by a filter, but you want your children to have access to it โ€” for example an educational platform or learning site.

The Allowlist contains exceptions โ€” domains that children can always access regardless of active filters.

Adding an Exception

Enter the domain

Enter the domain only without "https://" โ€” for example: khanacademy.org

Add a comment (optional)

For example: "educational platform" or "math practice".

Click "+ Allow"

The site is added immediately and children can access it.

Removing an Exception

Click ร— next to the domain in the list. It is removed immediately.

๐Ÿ’ก
Useful exception examples: khanacademy.org (educational lessons), scratch.mit.edu (kids programming), duolingo.com (languages).
7

Internet Block

In addition to automatic filters and schedule, you can block all internet access for the kids' network instantly with one click.

๐Ÿšซ Block Now

Immediately cuts all internet access for the kids' network. Useful during meals, homework time, or as a consequence.

โœ… Unblock Now

Restores internet access. Filters remain active.

โš ๏ธ
When internet is blocked, all devices on the kids' network lose access โ€” including to educational sites. Use when needed.
8

Devices

The "Kids Devices" section shows all devices currently connected to the kids' WiFi network.

๐Ÿ“ฑ What You See

For each device you see: Hostname (its network name), IP Address (internal), MAC Address (unique identifier) and Status (active or not).

โ†ป Refresh

Click "โ†ป Refresh" to update the device list from the router.

๐Ÿ’ก
If a device is not shown in the list, it is either not connected to the kids' WiFi network, or is turned off.
9

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a site still work after I blocked it?
The device may have cached the site's address. Wait up to 30 seconds or turn WiFi off and on again on the device. If it continues โ€” the site may use a hardcoded IP address rather than DNS.
Can my child bypass the blocking?
KidShield blocks VPN services and proxy servers. If a child manually changes DNS settings on their phone, the router automatically redirects all DNS queries to our server. Blocking is at the network level, not on the device.
Will internet slow down with filters active?
No. DNS filtering adds less than 1 millisecond to page load time. There is practically no noticeable difference in speed.
Do filters affect my (parent) network?
No. Filters apply only to the kids' WiFi network. Your network works normally without any restrictions.
Can I manage the system from my phone?
Yes. The dashboard is fully optimized for mobile devices. Open your address in the phone's browser.
What if I can't log in?
Use the "Forgot password?" feature on the login page. If you don't receive an email, contact us at info@kidshield.bg
How do I change my password?
Password change is available through the "Forgot password?" feature on the login page. Enter your email and you will receive a reset link.
Can I see which sites my children visit?
This feature is in development and will be available soon. You will be able to see a history of visited domains and blocked attempts in real time.
